Yala Agro Industry PLC is a private limited company based in Arbaminch, Gamo Zone, South Ethiopia Region. Legally established in May 2016, we are dedicated to producing high-quality, sustainable, and locally sourced dairy products. With a strong focus on innovation, community empowerment, and environmental responsibility, we are transforming Ethiopia’s dairy industry. From supporting farmers to delivering premium milk through quality based payment, quality input provision through market oriented approach, tailored training and access to finance facilitation, Yala is committed to nourish lives and transform rural economy. Crowning all its chain activities, Yala created a secured market for milk by processing long shelf-life products such as yoghurt, butter, cheese, etc.

How We Operate
At the heart of our work is a dynamic and integrated approach designed to uplift rural communities. We go beyond simple milk collection; we have built a comprehensive ecosystem that serves as a Rural Transformation Hub. Our model is designed to empower smallholder farmers by providing the services, support, and market access they need to thrive.
Our Farmer-Centric Milk Collection Network
Efficiency and freshness are the cornerstones of our milk collection process. We have developed a two-tiered system that places farmers at its core, ensuring their milk is collected quickly and preserved perfectly.
- Milk Collection Points (MCPs): To ensure that milk remains fresh, our MCPs are strategically located within a 20-minute walk for farmers. This proximity allows for the rapid collection of milk, often delivered by family members, preserving its quality from the very start.
- Milk Collection Centers (MCCs): From the various MCPs, milk is transported in aluminum cans to our regional MCCs. Each MCC is a modern facility equipped with a 2,000-liter Bulk Milk Chiller (BMC). Here, the milk is cooled and stored, maintaining its quality before the next stage of its journey. As a region's milk production grows, we upgrade MCPs into full-fledged MCCs or establish new ones, constantly expanding our reach.
From the MCCs, the chilled milk is transported in specialized tanker trucks to our central factory for processing.
A Commitment to Quality at Every Step
We believe that high-quality products begin with high-quality raw milk. To guarantee this, we have implemented a rigorous three-level quality testing system that ensures purity and transparency.
At the Collection Point (MCP): We conduct initial tests for freshness and purity to ensure there is no added water.
At the Collection Center (MCC): We analyze the milk's fat content. This data is crucial as it forms the basis for our quality-based payment system, ensuring farmers are fairly rewarded for higher-quality milk.
At the Factory: Upon arrival, we conduct a final consistency check, cross-referencing the milk with the report from the MCC. This step guarantees the integrity of the milk during transport and prevents any tampering.
More Than Milk: A Hub for Farmer Empowerment
Our MCCs are more than just collection centers; they are hubs of opportunity and support. We provide a range of "embedded services" that address the most significant challenges farmers face, helping them increase productivity and profitability.
- Advanced Animal Feed & Nutrition: We supply everything from processed feed and green fodder to specialized grass seed and Urea Molasses Blocks (UMB), ensuring livestock are healthy and productive.
- Modern Breeding and Health Services: We offer access to advanced breeding technologies like sexed semen for Artificial Insemination (AI) and provide essential medicines, vitamins, and nutrients through local drug shops.
- Financial Inclusion for Farmers: We understand that smallholder farmers often struggle with access to finance. Our model helps bridge income gaps by providing support, such as covering feed costs against future milk income, creating stability and opportunities for growth.
- Expert Training and Sustainable Farming: We provide tailored technical advice and training on best practices in animal health, feeding, and lactation. We champion Climate-Smart Dairying, promoting techniques like planting soil-conserving grasses and improving manure management to increase efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
